The Nursery Garden is a living, collaborative public artwork by SUPERFLEX for three hospital communities on the neighbouring islands of Réunion and Mayotte. Located in the Indian Ocean next to Madagascar, the two islands are departments of France and outermost regions of the European Union. The Nursery Garden creates a local system for cultural exchange through the hospital plant nurseries and encourages holistic thought about human bodies and hospital health care.
The Nursery Garden was developed in close collaboration with landscape architect Sébastien Clément, graphic designer Rasmus Koch and commissioned by local hospital representatives from both islands, acting under a joint initiative by Fondation de France called Les Nouveaux Commanditaires. Other partners of Jardin la Nurserie are: Directorates of Cultural Affairs of Réunion and Mayotte, the Regional Agency for Indian Ocean Health, The University Hospital Centre of Réunion and the Hospital of Mayotte, Daniel & Nina Carasso Foundation & Fondation de France.
The Nursery Gardens are open from Tuesday 31st of October (CHU St. Pierre and CHU St. Dennis) and Friday 3rd of November (Mamoudzou)
