C.R.E.A.M.

Year: 2017

C.R.E.A.M. is an installation consisting of a ATM covered in silver chrome. While simultaneously appearing as a fetish object, a sculpture and a mirror, it is also fully functional and usable for the public.

A second part of the installation is a text presented next to the ATM. For Kunsthaus Graz the text also appears as a rolling text light installation on the façade.

The text is an alteration of the rap group Wu-Tang Clan’s song ‘C.R.E.A.M.’ (cash rules everything around me) from their 1993 debut album ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’. In SUPERFLEX’s version the lyrics are altered from including the US currency to the currency of the European Union, placing the work in a contemporary European reality:

Cash rules everything around me
C.R.E.A.M.
Get the money
Euro euro bill, y’all

C.R.E.A.M. re-situates the capitalistic dream of wealth and financial stability proposed by Wu-Tang Clan, which today could also be perceived as an obituary for the end of cash money era.
