SUPERDANISH
This mural is a copy of a mural titled "Iraqi freedom" in Twentynine Palms, California USA. The Twentynine Palms mural includes signature images from the conflict, such as the toppling of the statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad, alongside portraits of American soldiers. In this copy American troops are replaced with Danish military personal and weaponry.
Latex on drywall, 13m x 3m, 2004.
Mural painted by Mark Bell and Issam Idani.
The mural was created at the invitation of Reid Shier, Curator of The Power Plant Contemporay Art Gallery, Toronto, which commissioned SUPERFLEX to develop a project as part of "Superdanish - Newfangled Danish Culture" at the Harbourfront Centre, Toronto - a Danish cultural invasion of Canada.
